Has anyone successfully won the battle with hair algae in a tank of large fish?
I bought a plant alive for my 75 gal. Fish Tank 8 months ago. He had what I thought was some algae magnificent. Sadly, it was hair algae and has since taken over the tank and decorations ALL. I bought Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Algaefix and deal with regularly, but I'm losing the fight. Has anyone successfully won the battle with hair algae in a tank large fish? Please share the secret.
Yes! I have removed all the hair algae, both in my 29 and 75 gallon (are you ready for this?) Mollies. They love things. I've had less luck with Mollies themselves, especially because I'm sure they prefer a little salt in the water, that I have, but did such a good job in my 75 so far have done, I have no hair issues algae. Molly I have a black one still in my 29-gallon, and there problems there. I heard Molly's hair algae eating skills from my mom, and started them before becoming a big problem, but I think that over time could take care of any infestation. Siamese algae eaters are also good for the care of this problem, but only eat it when young, then you are stuck with six potentially aggressive "fish do not touch the algae.'d suggest removing as much algae can present just before the Mollies, and then let them have in it.
