Can my aquarium plants survive without high-tech equipment of CO2 or CO2 tablets?

I have a plant growing on a piece of wood that I bought in a local fish store. I have no gravel in the aquarium. After a week, the tip of the leaves turned yellow and translucent. Only after that, "I realize I really need to supplement CO2 tank. All this while I thought the CO2 dissolves in water. I have a 50 gallon tank with neon tetras. The surface my tank is always flowing faster output filter water is poured on the horizontal surface instead of vertically to the bottom. Will my plant survive? If not, how? Thanks!

I tried to keep all kinds of s plant in my aquarium with only end in failure. the only thing that seems to work is a ton of light (i heard the less than 1 watt per gallon) and CO2, I have found that plants false (Tho they look really fake in-store) seem to look much more lively in the water and are cheaper (plants, Fert, CO2, light, gravel), and less labor.
