Too much ammonia in fish tank?
I have a freshwater aquarium 30 gallons. It has two zebra fish, a silver dollar fish, a sun, two neon tetras, a guppy, a frog, tail of scissors and a cory cat in it. I do a partial water change about every 10 days. I had to create about a month. I can try almost all days for pH, nitrates and ammonia levels. The pH and nitrate levels are very good. Ammonia levels are always high though. I have four bags of ammonia in the tank (to help control the ammonia). I feed the fish twice daily fish flakes. Never left after 5 minutes of feeding. I also give them a treat once a week from lyophilized artemia cube. Why do you think the ammonia is always high? I have tried to help lock ammonia to control ammonia, but does not seem to be helping. I have two filters in the tank and they hang on the back. What do you think could be causing the problem ammonia? I also add salt aquaium each partial water change. Any suggestions?
Your tank is probably still cycling. This may take about two weeks until than a month. Try doing a water change 25% every week, add some bacteria biospira (This level can be obtained from a pet store) and put in a conditioner waters called Prime. This really helps. Also, buy a filter with a Bio wheel costs about thirty dollars, but that will lower your ammonia levels to zero.
