Do I need a protein skimmer on a nano reef aquarium?

Im starting a nano reef in a 6 gallon fluval edge, I’m going to put diy power compact lighting. I’m going to use a SubCurrent Internal Wet/Dry Filter by Current USA. I also might use a small HOB filter. Do I need a protein skimmer? If I do what kind would work on that tank. I plan on keeping several soft corals, like mushrooms, zoas etc… and some clean up crew, snails, hermit crabs, maybe a peppermint shrimp or two. No fish

every reef tank should have a protein skimmer
