Does this water filter add oxygen into my fish tank?

Hi, I was looking for a fish tank to keep a Dwarf gourami and a cherry shrimp. I found on at walmart that looks good but i’m not sure how it get’s oxygen because there is no bubbler. Does the filter put oxygen into the water? It is a Whisper Power Filter that delivers a 2-step filter process which traps suspended particles and absorbs discoloration, noxious odors and chlorine for crystal clear aquarium water. Here is what it looks like… go to http://www.walmart.com/catalog/allReviews.do?product_id=3635107 and scroll down to the 9th review. I just want to make sure that my fish are getting oxygen because i’m not sure how often i’ll be able to change the water, thanks

Simply by moving the water around the tank the filter will help oxygen exchange from the air. The water at the surface will release CO2 and absorb O2 from the air. But you need to circulate the water, bring the fresh stuff from the surface and move the stale water to the surface. Anything that moves the water helps with oxygen exchange.

So a simple power filter will do the job as long as you only have a sensible number of fish.

More important is the processing of waste ammonia in the water. Thats the main reason for having a filter.

Have a read below about the nitrogen cycle. You still need to do water changes to remove waste nitrate from the tank, but a cycled filter will take care of the Oxygen and Ammonia issues for you. The filter will reduce your need to change the water to a partial change every week or two.
