How often should I clean my ten gallon tank?
Currently I have a tropical freshwater aquarium ten gallon with four neon tetras, a silver molly, and a pearl gourami. My current routine maintenance is the added stress zyme once a week, doing a twenty percent five pounds of water change every three weeks, and the replacement of the filter pad every month. It is a time for three weeks with sufficient frequency for the change of water? Thanks for any assistance you may have.
You should do a water change 25% every two weeks. In a small tank nitrate can grow exponentially without any notice, so its important to do frequent water changes. Unless your tank is saturated, every 2 weeks should be often enough. Get a nitrate / nitrite kit test that can monitor your water parameters. You should vacuum the gravel half a tank during a water change, and the other half the next water change, then start again. You should also clean the glass once a month.
