What is the proper way to change a filter bag in the aquarium?
I'm concerned that by replacing my old filter bag by a new one that I will lose some beneficial bacteria and harm to my 30 gallon tank. What is the proper way to clean a filter and change the filter bag? Thanks!
If you have a bio wheel that most of the bacteria are living in it, but you are right that simply removing the bag "kills bacteria. A good way to prevent this is if the filter has an extra point for a second filter out the new with the old filter for about 1-2 weeks. This will allow the bacteria to form on the new filter before removing the old. If the filter is just dirt and departure can not be cleaned. This is not the best way, but it works. Turn off the filter and get a cube. Fill the bucket with some water in your tank. Clean the filter in the bucket. This should save some of your bacteria.
